FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BRIDES FOR A CAUSE RAISES $120,000 IN 2013

FOR ITS PARTNER CHARITY WISH UPON A WEDDING

Proceeds Help Grant Weddings for Couples Facing Terminal Illness and Other Serious Life Altering Circumstances

IMG_2032Portland, OR (February 19, 2014) – Brides for a Cause, a registered commercial fundraiser with the Department of Justice, announced today that it raised a total of $120,000 in 2013 for its partner charity, Wish Upon A Wedding.  The proceeds raised for the charity goes to fulfill the 501(c)3’s mission, which is to grant weddings and vow renewals for couples facing life threatening illness and other serious life altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation.  To date, Wish Upon A Wedding has granted more than 60 weddings and vow renewals, including a wedding for a local Portland couple, Heather & Chris, on September 3, 2013.

Founded in April 2012, Brides for a Cause, which recently expanded into a 2,100 sq. ft. warehouse space on NE 20th & Alberta in Portland, is dedicated to collecting new and gently used wedding dress donations from bridal stores, manufacturers and past brides around the country, which are resold to the general public at discounted prices.  In 2013 alone, the organization collected 1,566 wedding dress donations from generous donors around the US and as far away as Australia.  Brides for a Cause sold roughly 700 wedding dresses out of its bridal boutique in Portland, online and by hosting 13 road shows along the west coast this past year, including 5 in Portland.

Proceeds are split 50/50 between Brides for a Cause and Wish Upon A Wedding.  The charity received $119,959 from Brides for a Cause this past year, which marked its first full calendar year in business.  Brides for a Cause covers ALL expenses and overhead costs associated with the partnership, while the charity receives a check in the mail each month for half of the sales.  This gives Wish Upon A Wedding the funds they need to grant weddings for couples who are eager to make a lifelong commitment, despite enduring incredible hardship.  The charity was just featured on Forbes.com for its incredible work.
