The Oregonian (Portland) – March 2015

Planning an Oregon wedding? Couture event shares ideas

A trip to Cape Disappointment State Park resulted in a joyful occasion for Spencer Bohaboy and Noelle Savatta in December. They got engaged.

On Sunday, they strolled through the Nines ballroom in downtown Portland, overwhelmed by all the possibilities for their special day. The Rocked Bridal Event sponsored by Portland Bride & Groom, attracted 450 brides, grooms and their moral support for a day of sampling hors d’oeuvres and wine tasting while learning more from over 100 vendors representing apparel, catering, entertainment, event coordinators, floral, health and beauty, jewelry and photography.

Lovebirds Bohaboy and Savatta don’t have a date yet, maybe fall sometime, but they’re approaching it with a relaxed attitude. Walking around the Nines’ gallery, arms intertwined, they took the time for a little slow dancing to the The Junebugs‘ live banjo version of Lorde’s “Royals.” The Junebugs frontman Moses Barrett describes their music as “genre-bending pop folk.”

Sipping wine later, groom Bohaboy said wading through “too many ideas” at the Rocked event has left them with one over-arching theme for their wedding.

“The idea of what’s Oregon and giving (our guests) that experience.”

And to that end, they came to the right place. Three vignettes transported attendees to different romantic settings for wedding decor. The themes were: A Wedding in Wine Country, Northwest Elegance and Italian Romance.

And it was all for a good cause. The admission fee proceeds will benefit Wish Upon a Wedding (supported by Brides for a Cause), a non-profit that provides weddings and vow renewals for couples facing terminal illness and serious life-altering circumstances regardless of sexual orientation.
