Hundreds say ‘yes’ to the dress in Sisters

Bargain wedding dresses sold for a good cause

POSTED: 6:25 PM PDT October 11, 2014 UPDATED: 8:57 PM PDT October 11, 2014
SISTERS, Ore. – Would you say yes to the dress? Well, hundreds of women had a chance to do so Saturday in Sisters at the FivePine Lodge — and to help a good cause at the same time.

These women were not only getting their dress for the biggest day of their lives at a low price, but also helping a good cause.

But they had to do early.

“I woke up at 5:30 surprisingly, and I was here by 6,” Mariah McGinley said.

“I got here first,” Liesl Palmer said with a laugh.

“I decided I wasn’t going to get here right at 5, but I woke up at 4:30,” Crystal Franklin said.

The founder of Brides for A Cause, Erin Scharf, said it “seemed like people were really on a mission to find a wedding dress today.”

Many of the women were willing to travel quite a distdance to pick out the right dress for their big day.

“I had intended on even going to Portland to get the dress, and then I heard on the radio that this event was here ,so it just worked out,” Franklin said.

This event, co-sponsored by radio station WILD 107.7, wasn’t just any bridal gown sale. You could say yes to a dress for only $150. Also, half of the benefits go to Wish Upon a Wedding, an organization that provides free weddings for couples with terminal illnesses.

“So the money that we collect here goes to them, so people can come here, get a great deal on a wedding dress and support their cause,” Scharf said.

One bride-to-be really hit the jackpot, as she won a raffle — and got her dress for free.

“Well, I signed up online, wrote my name down, they called my name and I was like, ‘No, no way!’ And they were like, ‘Yeah!’ — and I was like, ‘Wow!’ McGinley said. “I cried and teared up a little bit, like — oh, wow.”

With so many options to choose from, sometimes narrowing it down can be harder than picking the one you like.

“One dress that we were going to like take all apart and redo because it was so fantastic, and we went to buy it, and on the way to buying it we found another dress and I tried it on, and I was like, ‘This is the dress I’m supposed to buy,'” Palmer said.

You can also keep your options open.

“I may end up getting both dresses and decide later,” Franklin said with a laugh.

Either way, everyone can go home feeling good.

“I’m just super glad I could support brides for a cause, and that my money went to a good cause. and that I found something I love for so cheap, it’s perfect,” Palmer said.

If you weren’t lucky enough to make it this morning, Brides For a Cause has its boutique open seven days a week in Portland.

Chico Brides-to-be dash for dresses to support Wish Upon a Wedding

The rain didn’t stop any brides-to-be from heading out to the “Brides for a Cause” Dress Dash.

Brides-to-be spent hours in the CARD community center in Chico to find the perfect dress for their trip down the aisle. Even better… each dress was only $150.

…and it’s all for a great cause

For the last 2 years the Portland based company has raised thousands of dollars for Wish Upon a Wedding, which provides weddings for people who are terminally ill.

Brides spent the day with family and loved ones trying on gowns and veils, eventually getting to leave saying “yes to the dress.”

Brides for a Cause has a location in Portland and they have over 2,000 dresses in their inventory.

They’ll also be returning to chico in the spring. Visit the Brides for a Cause web page to find out when.

JUNCTION CITY, Ore. — Wedding day is a big deal for any bride but what’s a wedding without a dress?

Hundreds of local women got a chance to find a wedding dress for only $150 at the Shadow Hills Country Club in Junction City on Saturday.

The dresses were collected and sold by Portland-based company, Brides for a Cause.

It’s donating half of the proceeds from Saturday to a non-profit called, Wish Upon a Wedding, which puts on free weddings for couples who are facing terminal illnesses.

Organizers say this is the first year the event was held in the area, but it won’t be the last.

“Hundreds. We had hundreds of brides. We had a line out the door, down and around the corner, so we really pulled out a lot of brides here,” said Erin Scharf, founder of Brides for a Cause.
