Brides For A Cause: Helping Women Recycle And Find The Perfect Dress

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Weddings aren’t known for being cheap or stress free. That’s how Brides for a Cause, an Oregon-based company that resells gowns, came about.

“I just saw a need where people wore their wedding dresses just one time so why not recycle them,” said Erin Scharf, found of Brides for a Cause.

But that’s not all.

“And then have the money help a good cause,” Scharf said.

The organization is partnered with the charity Wish Upon a Wedding that grants weddings for people with serious illnesses.

“We sometimes think, ‘Where would this person get their dress if we didn’t exist?’ Sometimes people are on a very tight budget and so we are able to help them buy a dress, and there are a lot of touching moments,” Scharf said.

This weekend, Brides for a Cause came to Sacramento to create those very moments for ladies like Janessa Huit.

“I said yes to the dress,” Huit said. “My mom looked at me and I looked at her and she said this is it.”

Grateful for the chance at their moment and glad to help someone else get theirs.

If you missed out this weekend, the show will also be in San Jose the last weekend of May.
