The Broke-Ass Bride – April 2014

Hey-o! A while back, BAB put out a call for a rad chicky in NYC to help us stay in the know on rockin’ events and killer happenings around the Big Apple. And we got just that in Michelle, who is planning her own wedding. So when she’s not busy being her radtastic self, she’s reppin’ The Broke-Ass Bride at various parties and shows in New York, then sharing her experience with y’all! Here’s Michelle:

Randy! TV Personality! Fabulous Dresser! Wedding Dress Extraordinaire! Bartender? For one night, at least, he most definitely was!  Randy Fenoli, along with other celebrities in the wedding world, volunteered their time and efforts, bartending at a Drinks and Dresses drive at TAJ Lounge in New York City.

Most importantly, this happened:

Randy

Even more fabulous than Randi, the event supported the New York Chapter of Wish Upon A Wedding, a wonderful organization that provides services and products to hold beautiful weddings for couples that, due to medical and financial circumstance, would not be able to hold the wedding for which they have wished. The organization works with donations and the generosity of many members in the wedding world to grant the wishes of brides and grooms to hold the wedding of their dreams and to be able to celebrate and say “I do” in the presence of their friends and family despite illness, pain and financial limitations. It puts a whole ‘nother meaning behind “dream wedding.”

Wish Upon A Wedding accepts donations in the form of cash-money and also works with their partner, Brides For A Cause, to receive donated wedding dresses that are then resold. 50% of the profits go to help couples facing terminal illnesses.

So remember when you said “yes” to the dress then you said yes to the love of your life? Save that special and beautiful dress from a boxed fate in the back of your closet and give it the opportunity to make another bride glow.

That dress brought tears to your eyes and to the eyes of your beloved.  What a beautiful legacy to your love knowing that you passed on your joy  to another couple in need.

$120,000 Raised for WUW in 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

BRIDES FOR A CAUSE RAISES $120,000 IN 2013

FOR ITS PARTNER CHARITY WISH UPON A WEDDING

Proceeds Help Grant Weddings for Couples Facing Terminal Illness and Other Serious Life Altering Circumstances

IMG_2032Portland, OR (February 19, 2014) – Brides for a Cause, a registered commercial fundraiser with the Department of Justice, announced today that it raised a total of $120,000 in 2013 for its partner charity, Wish Upon A Wedding.  The proceeds raised for the charity goes to fulfill the 501(c)3’s mission, which is to grant weddings and vow renewals for couples facing life threatening illness and other serious life altering circumstances, regardless of sexual orientation.  To date, Wish Upon A Wedding has granted more than 60 weddings and vow renewals, including a wedding for a local Portland couple, Heather & Chris, on September 3, 2013.

Founded in April 2012, Brides for a Cause, which recently expanded into a 2,100 sq. ft. warehouse space on NE 20th & Alberta in Portland, is dedicated to collecting new and gently used wedding dress donations from bridal stores, manufacturers and past brides around the country, which are resold to the general public at discounted prices.  In 2013 alone, the organization collected 1,566 wedding dress donations from generous donors around the US and as far away as Australia.  Brides for a Cause sold roughly 700 wedding dresses out of its bridal boutique in Portland, online and by hosting 13 road shows along the west coast this past year, including 5 in Portland.

Proceeds are split 50/50 between Brides for a Cause and Wish Upon A Wedding.  The charity received $119,959 from Brides for a Cause this past year, which marked its first full calendar year in business.  Brides for a Cause covers ALL expenses and overhead costs associated with the partnership, while the charity receives a check in the mail each month for half of the sales.  This gives Wish Upon A Wedding the funds they need to grant weddings for couples who are eager to make a lifelong commitment, despite enduring incredible hardship.  The charity was just featured on Forbes.com for its incredible work. The Brides for a Cause bridal boutique in Portland is located at 4942 NE 20th Avenue.  The boutique is open every Friday & Saturday from 10-4 and Sunday from 12-3 and Monday-Thursday by special appointment.  Local brides who shop at Brides for a Cause will find themselves immersed in a sea of over 1,500 designer and brand name wedding dresses, which are all discounted up to 75% off, giving them an opportunity to afford a beautiful wedding dress and support charity simultaneously.  Brides for a Cause is set to host 9 upcoming road show events during the current wedding gown season starting next weekend in select cities, including Seattle on February 20-22.  The organization is currently accepting wedding dress donations 2008 and newer.  Donations are tax deductible.  For more information, please visit www.bridesforacause.com.
